Rocky came to Healing Heart Rehab after we received an urgent call from a city staff member about a very skinny dog tied outside behind his owner’s home. Rocky had been forgotten. He was spending his life on a tie out with very little attention, proper care, or love.

No dog deserves to live that way.

Rocky was owner surrendered to our rescue, and that day became the beginning of a completely different life for him. The skinny, neglected dog we first met has transformed into a healthy, happy boy who finally knows what it feels like to be cared for.

Despite everything he experienced, Rocky is incredibly loving and resilient. He absolutely loves to play and gets very excited when it is playtime!

Rocky is dog friendly, but he can play rough when he gets excited. He would do best with another dog who enjoys a similar energetic play style.

Rocky previously lived around cats while he was tied outside, and his former owner stated that he did not bother them. However, we were also told that Rocky killed chickens, so he will need a home without chickens, poultry, or other farm birds.

After spending years tied outside and overlooked, Rocky deserves the opportunity to experience what being part of a family is really supposed to feel like.

Eli was found dumped and running the streets in Thornton, Texas. He was scared, unsure, and unwilling to come to anyone, so we had to safely trap him to finally get him off the streets.

Once Eli was safe, we discovered that he was microchipped. Sadly, the person connected to his microchip never responded.

We contacted the shelter in Bryan, Texas where Eli originally came from and learned even more about his past. His owner had attempted to dump him in the shelter parking lot back in December. At that time, Eli was also skinny.

This sweet boy had already been let down more than once.

We will never understand why anyone would give up on Eli because he is truly such a sweet boy. Despite everything humans have put him through, he still has so much love to give.

Eli is friendly, loving, and does great with other dogs. At only around 1 year old, he has his whole life ahead of him and deserves the opportunity to spend it with a family who will love and care for him.

Dolly can be a little slow to warm up to strangers, but she is not aggressive. She simply needs a little time to feel comfortable and know that she is safe. Once she trusts you, she is an affectionate little sweetheart who is happy to curl up in your lap.

Cash first appeared in a post on December 30 near the Walmart in Mexia, Texas, the same area where one of our previous rescue dogs was originally found. At the time, Cash appeared approachable, and we asked whether animal control had been contacted. We never saw another update and hoped he had made it somewhere safe.

Unfortunately, that was not the case.

On January 13, a woman who lives behind the Walmart contacted our rescue about what appeared to be the same dog. This time, Cash was covered in blood and limping. We were also told that he had been tied to a female dog who was loose in the area.

As soon as we received the call, we headed out to help him and get him to safety.

Cash is estimated to be around 3 years old and weighs approximately 45–50 pounds. He is a smaller, handsome boy who is dog friendly but will need a home without cats.

Cash is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. He is heartworm positive and has started slow-kill heartworm treatment.

One of Cash’s biggest challenges is his fear of leashes. Something in his past has left him extremely fearful of being on a leash, and we are currently working with him to help him overcome that fear and learn that a leash does not have to mean something bad is going to happen.

Meet Robin!

Robin is a sweet long hair chihuahua girl who was sadly abandoned and had to be trapped to get her safely off the streets. Despite what she has been through, she is a loving girl who deserves the chance to finally have a family of her own.

Robin is estimated to be around 1 to 1 1/2 years old. She is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. She is also dog, cat, and kid friendly!

Sadly, Robin tested positive for heartworms, but heartworms are not a death sentence for her. We have already started her treatment, and her new adopter will need to make sure she stays on heartworm prevention as directed. Keeping her on prevention will be extremely important for her continued treatment and future health.

Robin has already experienced being abandoned once. Now she needs someone willing to give her the love, commitment, and security she deserves. She is ready to leave her past behind and start the next chapter of her life with a family of her own.

Left on the streets to suffer greatly, this sweet soul was finally seen. The person who made the call to save her has named her Angel, and that name could not be more fitting. Angel is in rough shape. She is not wanting to put weight on her feet as they are extremely swollen and infected. About 80% of her body is covered in mange and a severe skin infection. Her neck appears to have been draining pus, and she is clearly in pain. While she has been kind and gentle so far, she does not want to be touched right now, which is completely understandable given what her body is enduring.

We do not know her age, and we are not going to push her in any way. Right now, the only focus is getting her comfortable, treating her pain, and starting the long road to healing. No animal should ever have to live like this. Please keep Angel in your prayers and pray for fast, gentle healing for her broken body and spirit. 

 Meet Louie.

Louie was found dumped on a rural county road along with another dog. Sadly, he had been neglected for quite some time before someone finally stepped in to help. When Louie arrived, he was completely matted. His fur was so bad that sticks, grass seeds, and debris had become buried into his coat and skin, leaving him with painful wounds. No animal should ever have to live that way.

Thankfully, Louie is now safe and receiving the care he deserves. He is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative and received ProHeart 12 vaccine, and microchipped. We suspect he is around 3-4 years old. 

He needs to be sedated with pills that we have for grooming appointments. 

Despite everything Louie has been through, he is a sweet boy who is dog and cat friendly. We do want to be transparent that Louie needs someone who understands his boundaries. He can become snippy when he is uncomfortable with certain people or being touched in certain ways, so he should be watched closely around children. He is not fond of meeting strangers and has two bite case histories since being at the rescue. He needs a family who will give him patience, respect, and time to feel safe. Louie’s past may have started with neglect and abandonment, but his future starts now. He is finally loved, cared for, and getting the second chance he always deserved.

Mindy is a beautiful Shar-Pei mix who came to our rescue after a life she never deserved. She had been used for breeding and was eventually dumped in horrible condition when she was no longer wanted.

Despite what humans put her through, Mindy has not allowed her past to take away her happiness or her love for people. She has the sweetest heart and so much energy and excitement for life!

Mindy deserved to be loved as a family member, not used for breeding and discarded.

Mindy is around 2 years old and weighs approximately 45 pounds, making her a great medium-sized companion.

She is dog and kid friendly. We are currently unsure how she does with cats.

Mindy is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. She is also heartworm positive, but thankfully it was caught early and she has already started treatment. Being heartworm positive does not mean Mindy cannot go on to live a happy, healthy life. Her adopter will need to continue her prescribed heartworm prevention and treatment plan.

Meet Rosie!

Rosie and her siblings were found on a property in Mexia, TX after a welfare check was requested for their owner. Sadly, their owner had passed away and had been deceased for weeks before they were discovered.

Despite everything Rosie has been through she is such a sweet girl! She has 2 puppies and the white one has an approved adopter. She is dog, cat, and kid friendly, and we are currently working with her on leash training.

We are hoping to find an adopter for her up North or a rescue to take her in. She will not be available for adoption until her pups are weaned and she is fully vetted. 

Meet Winston!

Winston and his sibling were dumped in the middle of nowhere in Limestone County and left to survive on their own. We worked to safely trap them, but sadly, Winston's sibling was too afraid to enter the trap and was later hit by a car. Winston was successfully trapped and brought safely into our rescue.

When Winston first arrived, he was extremely scared and completely shut down. He didn't understand that he was finally safe or that the people around him wanted to help him.

Thankfully, we are beginning to see glimpses of his fun little personality! Winston is slowly learning to trust us and is starting to show interest in interacting with us. Every little step forward is a big accomplishment for this sweet boy.

Winston is getting fully vetted this week, and we are currently accepting adoption applications. He will need a patient, loving family willing to give him the time he needs to continue building his confidence and learning that people can be good.
